Be the first to know about our upcoming Playgroups!

Lively structured sessions.

The KIS Playgroup is for all families (not just KIS Families to join). It’s a fun way for families to socialize together with their little ones. These structured morning sessions are full of singing, dancing, storytelling, and arts and crafts. We all sit down together to have a snack too. We play games such as bingo and picture dominoes which help the children learn shapes, colours, and matching. The games also teach them to share and take turns. We end the playgroup by reading our favourite storybooks and singing our favourite songs. It’s a great way for the young ones to learn social skills and make new friends!

Questions & Answers

What is Playgroup?

Playgroup at KIS is a two-hour session of free play and structured activities (arts and crafts, games, singing, dancing, story time and snack) conducted in English with our enthusiastic playgroup leader.

Playgroup is designed for children between the ages of 1 and 2 years old, but it is open for children from 6 months - 4 years old.

You do not have to be enrolled at KIS to join a playgroup.

When and where is playgroup?

Playgroup occurs weekdays from 10:00-12:00. Preference is given to native and advanced English speakers for these sessions.

Playgroup is offered during the KIS school year, so we will not offer playgroup on national holidays, school holidays and summer breaks. You can see the KIS academic calendar here.

Our playgroup is held in a lovely classroom overlooking the playground at the heart of the KIS International School campus.

The KIS International School campus is located at:

KIS International School 999/123-124 Pracha-Uthit Road, Huay-Kwang Bangkok 10310, Thailand

You can drive and park on our campus. If coming by taxi, please enter via our main gate.

What does a playgroup session look like?

  • Parents/nanny and child arrive at the playgroup room, take off their shoes, sanitize their hands, and enter the classroom.
  • First hour is free play with our age-appropriate activities and taking turns in small groups with the playgroup leader, engaging in an arts and crafts activity or a game.
  • At 11:00 we tidy up and wash up for community snack time when we sit at the tables to eat together.
  • From 11:30 till 12:00, we have our story, music and dancing time ending with our goodbye song.
  • Tidy up, sticker time, and goodbye.

How often can my child attend playgroup?

Due to high interest in our program, we typically limit each family to once a week. If we have space available in other sessions, we will invite families who have expressed an interest in attending more sessions.

How many children are in each playgroup session?

We are currently limiting our session size to 15 children per session.

Are there separate sessions for different age groups?

No, our sessions have mixed age groups. Recommended age is 1-2 years old.

How much does playgroup cost?

Playgroup is 400 Baht per session. However, if you register in advance or are a BAMBI member you will pay only 200 Baht.

How do I sign up for playgroup?

You may register your interest on this form. When sign-ups open, you will receive an SMS from the playgroup team to book a slot. Sign-ups are twice a year and are on a first-come-first-served basis.

If spaces are available in a session, you may start straight away. Once our playgroup team has confirmed your space, they will contact you with the payment options via email. Due to high demand, payment is made in advance for the whole term for the sessions.

Do I need to stay at playgroup with my child?

Yes, a parent, caregiver, or nanny must be present at all times.

Can another family member take my child to playgroup?

Yes, another authorized family member can take your child to your allocated playgroup day.

What happens if we cannot attend one or more sessions?

If you or your child is sick, or if you know you will be absent, please email us at playgroup@kis.ac.th to let us know.

How many teachers are in the class?

There is one playgroup leader. Parents/guardians or nannies are expected to be actively engaged with their children during playgroup (therefore the use of mobile phones is not allowed).

Who is the playgroup leader?

The playgroup leader is Ms. Lynn. She has extensive experience working with young children and their families. Ms. Lynn is a native English speaker from Scotland, and, in addition to running the playgroups, she is also our Early Years admissions officer and a dance teacher.

Is food included in the fee?

Yes, a light snack is provided for children only during the playgroup sessions. Coffee, tea, and water are available for adults.

Will my child be enrolled at KIS if I join playgroup?

No, joining playgroup does not mean your child is enrolled at KIS.

Does my child have a better chance of being enrolled at KIS if he/she joins playgroup?

There is no preference during the admissions process for playgroup children. However, playgroup families will have the benefit of already being familiar with the KIS community and your children will already be comfortable at our school. From an admissions perspective, we will have the advantage of already knowing your family should you choose to apply to KIS.

Does my child need to join playgroup before being able to apply to KIS?

No, there is no requirement to join playgroup before applying to KIS.

How can I apply to KIS?

Please follow the application procedures on our website: https://www.kis.ac.th or contact admissions@kis.ac.th.

Why are there separate sessions for Thai and international families?

Given the social nature of the program, we have separated days based on language ability and comfort level. We have separated the sessions so that nannies can attend certain sessions, and so that more Thai families can attend. International sessions are designed to allow international families to make social connections with the expat community in an English-speaking environment. As such Thai families, even if they speak English, are requested to join the Thai sessions.
